Socionics Description
Socionics is a concept that derived inspiration from Carl Jung Cognitive Function however it has drastic differences and was developed by Aushra Augustinavichiute. Currently the concept of socionics has been developed further with multiple authors improving and adjusting the system, however this website will focus only on the early works by Ausra.
It can be defined as understanding how people think and process information in different ways, how they fit into society, and how their relationships with others work because of these differences.
Similar to Carl Jung, there are 8 elements that make up the Socionics system, however it is called 8 aspects of reflection or 8 functions.
There are 8 positions with grouping system called blocks that state the similarity of the positions which later can be filled with 8 functions
Ego Block contains the Base (1st) and Creative (2nd) functions. These are the most natural and conscious aspects of a person's personality, reflecting their core strengths and expertise.
Base (1st) strongest and most natural way of perceiving and interacting with the world.
Creative (2nd) adaptable skill, used to complement your Base function effectively.
Super-Ego Block contains the Role (3rd) and Point of Least Resistance/Vulnerable (4th) functions. This block reflects areas of struggle, societal expectations, and personal challenges where effort is often required.
Role (3rd) conscious but strained area, shaped by societal expectations and effort.
Vulnerable/PoLR (4th) weakest point, often avoided or causing discomfort.
Super-Id Block contains the Suggestive (5th) and Mobilizing (6th) functions. This block represents areas where individuals seek support and growth, providing comfort and inspiration.
Suggestive (5th) A receptive area where to seek support, comfort, and inspiration.
Mobilizing (6th) A growth-oriented area that is motivated when nurtured by others.
Id Block contains the Demonstrative (8th) and Ignoring (7th) functions. These are unconscious strengths that are situationally effective but are not a focus for the individual.
Ignoring (7th) A strong but undervalued function, used sparingly in favor of other strengths.
Demonstrative (8th) A well-developed and natural function used unconsciously to support others.
Elements
Ne - Black Intuition (Extraverted Intuition) relates to perceiving the potential energy and capabilities of objects, including people’s physical and mental abilities. It enables an understanding of structures and internal content, determining whether someone can discern the real potential of their environment. Those with dominant Ne often have a strong cognitive curiosity, dedicating themselves to exploring deep phenomena and simplifying complex ideas for others. This quality often leads them to careers in science or writing, where they excel at inspiring others with their insights into possibilities and optimization.
Fe - Black Ethics (Extraverted Feeling) focuses on understanding emotional processes and states in people, such as excitement, depression, or moods. It allows individuals to comprehend and influence emotional dynamics, both within themselves and others. A person with strong Fe can evoke or suppress emotional states in others, often aligning emotions to what they perceive as beneficial. They might consciously transmit excitement or calmness, inspiring readiness or managing conflict. While emotions can serve as a way of relieving inner tension, they also become tools for managing interpersonal dynamics.
Se - Black Sensorics (Extraverted Sensing) pertains to perceiving kinetic energy, including physical organization, willpower, and the ability to assert influence. It equips individuals to see and mobilize resources, manage people and objects, and exert their will over others. Those who excel in Se are typically strong organizers, adept at initiating and managing projects. They are often characterized by a drive to impose their energy and authority to achieve goals, reflecting their capacity to shape and direct the external environment effectively.
Te - Black Logic (Extraverted Thinking) concerns understanding physical activity and actions in both animate and inanimate objects. It enables individuals to discern rational from irrational actions, develop effective methods, and plan work processes. A person with strong Te is skilled in organizing workflows and optimizing activities, ensuring efficiency and coherence. This logical approach allows them to guide others effectively and adapt processes to achieve desired outcomes.
Ni - White Intuition (Introverted Intuition) is tied to the perception of time and the sequence of events. It involves an awareness of past, present, and future, helping individuals grasp causality and anticipate outcomes. Those with dominant Ni often display strategic thinking, knowing when to act or retreat based on a sense of timeliness and rhythm. Their ability to foresee and plan stems from a nuanced understanding of temporal interconnections, allowing them to avoid mistakes and make well-timed decisions.
Si - White Sensorics (Introverted Sensing) emphasizes the internal state of objects and their interrelations. It captures the impact of processes on well-being and aesthetic experiences. Individuals with strong Si can recreate or evoke specific feelings, whether in themselves or others. This ability often manifests in artistic or sensory expressions, such as creating aesthetically pleasing environments or enhancing comfort. These individuals are skilled at shaping their surroundings to align with their aesthetic preferences and influencing others sensory experiences.
Ti - White Logic (Introverted Thinking) involves an objective evaluation of relationships between objects, focusing on properties like weight, distance, and proportion. It fosters a sense of balance, understanding, and logical consistency. People with a strong sense of Ti excel at comparing objects based on their inherent qualities, independent of personal needs or biases. This objectivity enables them to improve relationships between objects or ideas, influencing others’ understanding and enhancing collective knowledge.
Fi - White Ethics (Introverted Feeling) pertains to subjective relationships between individuals, highlighting attraction, repulsion, and emotional connections. It informs feelings of necessity or compatibility between people and objects. This aspect of perception allows individuals to understand the emotional dynamics in relationships, fostering empathy and alignment. Those with a strong Fi component can navigate complex interpersonal situations, building harmonious connections and resolving conflicts effectively.
Orders
Socionics has 16 different types based on rearranging the functions into the positions where each position can only be filled with one function. Additionally each block must be filled with one pair of Black and White (Introversion and Extraversion).
The type name in socionics has 3 letters. The first 2 letters have options from Ethical (E which defines the Feeling), Logical (L which defines the Thinking), Intuitive (I) and Sensory (S). The third letter only has options the Introversion (I) or Extraversion (E).
The first 2 letters can only have combinations of E or L with I or S and vice versa. The 1st function (Base) defines the first letter and the 2nd function (Creative) defines the 2nd letter. Then the third function defines the Extraversion or Introversion of the first letter or first function. For example if the type has 1st function of Fi and 2nd function of Se, it is named ESI. Another example is if the type has 1st function of Ne and 2nd function of Fi, it is named IEE.
Groups
Ausra defined that there are 4 groups for socionics type defined as quadras.
Alpha: ILE, SEI, ESE, LII (Ne, Si, Ti, Fe) values curiosity, shared enjoyment, and exploring new ideas.
Beta: SLE, IEI, EIE, LSI (Ni, Se, Ti, Fe) focuses on power, transformation, and collective goals.
Gamma: LIE, ESI, SEE, ILI (Ni, Se, Fi, Te) emphasizes realism, pragmatism, and achieving results.
Delta: IEE, SLI, LSE, EII (Ne, Si, Fi, Te) prioritizes growth, harmony, and sustainable development.
